My office these days
Every Thursday, my beautiful mother-in-law comes over and looks after the boys for me. In other words, she gives me a whole day to do what I need to do or want to do. And she has been doing this for the last five years or so.
Yes, I know. My mother-in-law is the best.
Back when we lived in the Northern Beaches, I used to take my laptop on Thursdays and work at Illie Cafe in Narrabeen. I would arrive in the morning and stay till late afternoon, long after the last customer (before me) had left. Costa and Simone, the owners of Illie Cafe, were always so wonderful about it. Over time, as I became part of the furniture, we became good friends.
When we moved to The Hills earlier this year, I had no expectation of finding a home away from home like I had at Illie Cafe.
But, sure enough, I have.
Tucked away off Annangrove Road is Meze Me—a stunning restaurant that offers up dishes and tapas inspired by Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine.
I was first introduced to Meze Me by my dear friend Carla, who knows the owner, Darren. One Thursday, when I was desperate to go somewhere with good food and good coffee for a couple of hours so that I could get some writing done, I decided to swing by Meze Me. My writing ended up taking longer than I’d expected (doesn’t it always), so I ordered another coffee and asked Darren if it would be okay for me to plug my laptop into one of his powerpoints. Darren was super obliging and truly didn’t seem to mind me staying for so long with my laptop.
I went back the week after that, and the week after that, and the week after that. Before I knew it, I started to get to know the staff like I did back at Illie Cafe, and they all learnt (pretty quickly) what I liked to order.
Needless to say, the food is amazing and the coffee is great. And take a look at that scenery!
Truly, this unexpected sanctuary has been a real blessing for me, and I do not take it for granted.
And if anybody is keen for a coffee or a lunch date on a Thursday, you know where to find me.
